Tips for Dealing with Stress Before a Big Event

If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know that besides the blog, styling and working with brands, I also do fashion and beauty segments on multiple TV networks. I have been doing TV for over 14 years, and as much as I love it, to be honest with you, it can be very stressful at times. But there are a few things that I have learned through out the years that have helped me manage the stress and come out on top! And trust me TV is not always what it seems. It’s not all glitz and glam, a lot of preparation goes into it before a segment. You just never see that part!

Today I'm going to give you tips on how I deal with the stress before going live. Maybe you can use some of these tips when you have to make a presentation, speak in front of a crowd or stand in the spotlight.

  • I make sure to pick out the outfit the night before so I won’t be stressing about it the day of.
  • I also wash and blow dry my hair the night before and sleep with a bun or a high ponytail. That way I don’t have to worry about blow-drying it the day of (you know it can take forever to blow dry). When I wake up, I just put my hair down and style it. Hair spray is my best friend when I go on TV!
  • Sometimes I don’t get enough sleep and I wake up with bags under my eyes so to make sure they are not noticeable on TV, I glide ice all over my face. I know it sounds weird but this helps with blood circulation, puffiness and tightens my pores.  You can also put a cold teaspoon over your eyes and you are set!
  • As far as TV makeup goes, it’s heavier than what I usually wear and I always wear fake eyelashes on air. Oh, and I make sure to apply the lipstick right before I go live.
  • I also go over my notes and pack all the products I have to use for the segment the night before. The day of I just go over my list and check things off.
  • On the way to the TV station I listen to my favorite music and try to think about other stuff besides the segment. This helps me relax and look natural in front of the cameras.
  • And last, minutes before I go live, I drink water, close my eyes and say a prayer!
